Jon calls this "a work of genius"--and I had to pay him almost nothing for the blurb. More mystery and mayhem in the Ivy League, mixing my world with real history to create something entertaining.

I've combed my archives to create this collection of my magazine humor. From The Yale Record to The New Yorker, the best of the pre-Barry years is in here.

My first non-parodic novel is now available! It's school like it ought to be: loud, eventful, and full of swearing!

I'm probably going to Hell for this C.S. Lewis spoof.

The ultimate Harry Potter parody. Three novels, 25 foreign editions, over a million copies sold--it's too much to list here, but you can read excerpts and buy the books at Barrytrotter.com!

I LOVED this email

This recently came through my in-box:

"I demand that you stop writing the Barry Trotter series. Close barrytrotter.com How can you make fun of the Harry Potter series? If I was old enough, I would sue you.

Ben The Barry Trotter HATER"

How could any author not be utterly charmed by this? Such passion--and for BOOKS. Yay, Ben! Go get 'im, fella! If all readers were as devoted as Ben obviously is, all of us writers would be better off.

Wow, HATER. In CAPITALS. He really means it, Mike.

If I was old enough, I'd sue you for not doing what he says. SUE you.

Geeze! some people need to get a sense of humor!! I am grateful that he isn't the president or something or else he would do real damage to the U.S I am personally glad that you haven't done what he said since I really enjoyed reading books 1 and 2 and wait faithfully for book 3's release in the U.S. Keep up the great work Mike!!

As the writer is probably about 12, I don't really see the point of mocking him. That said, my two kids, who are 13 and 14 and love the HP series and are waiting for book 6, thought your parody was a hilarious idea in spite of that. In fact I always enjoy parodies of books I like.

Thanks Anna. I don't think anybody's mocking him (I'm certainly not); in my experience, it's usually the 8/9s who fulminate like that. He/she is allowed. It's a free country, at least for now.

Every time I get a squib like that, I'm reminded of how odd it feels to arouse such passion in someone you've never met. As my uncle the painter once told me, "The day a complete stranger tells you he hates your stuff is the day you become a real artist." The same goes for parodists, I suppose!
